Hippopotamus- The name means river horse. They can weigh as much as 8,000 pounds and can gallop at 20 mph. (Faster than a human). They top the list at #1 for the most dangerous animal in Africa. Nearly all of the famous African explorers and hunters–Livingstone, Stanley, etc had boating mishaps with hippos. Even though they are vegetarians they are very territorial and will kill anything that threatens them. Lucky we won’t be living near any river.
