OK. This is not an African dish but since Namibia was a German colony, I had grown my first cabbage in the garden, and a friend posted this recipe to Facebook, here is the new recipe Jeremy and I tried this month. It is super easy and good. We used ground turkey for our meat. Because of this recipe, we are growing more cabbage in the garden for the fall which we planted this week.
~German Skillet Dinner~
3 tbl butter or margarine
1/2 cabbage, chopped
2/3 c uncooked rice (I use minute rice)
1 med onion, chopped
2 lbs raw hamburger meat
1 can diced tomatoes or rotel tomatoes
Salt and pepper to taste
Melt butter in skillet, layer cabbage, uncooked rice, onion, raw crumbled hamburger, salt and pepper, then tomatoes. Cover with lid and simmer 25-35 minutes until rice, cabbage and burger are done. Do not stir or lift lid until done.
Hope to share my cooking adventures with you all each month. Each recipe will be saved under the category Taste of Africa. Enjoy!
